Emerald Shadows: Notes on Character Types and Game World

General Information

All characters in this game will be Cliath (i.e., Rank 1) Garou from the continental United States, Europe, or Canada. The characters will be starting out in a caern in Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C.; please keep this in mind as you create your character.

Character Types

I will accept beginning (i.e., legal [made according to the point totals in the Werewolf rule book]), Cliath (i.e., Rank 1) Garou characters. As lupus are rare, lupus PCs are subject to ST approval.

I do not accept non-Garou Fera (Ananasi, Bastet, Corax, etc.) PCs. The name of the game is WereWOLF, after all, and the presence of too many other Fera tends to divert attention away from the Garou, the true stars of the show. Besides, there's generally too much bad blood between the Garou and the other species of Fera to allow them to work together (something about the "War of Rage"...).

I also do not accept hengeyokai (Eastern shapeshifter) PCs (even Garou ones).

In order to give each character a chance to shine, I will accept only one PC of a particular Breed/Auspice/Tribe combination (i.e., there will only be one Homid Black Fury Theurge PC). As characters are accepted, I will post which combinations are closed on the web site. Please be understanding if I tell you that the Breed/Auspice/Tribe combination you send me is closed.

Tribes

Characters may be of any of the following tribes: Black Furies (note that Black Fury characters must be female, unless they are metis), Bone Gnawers, Children of Gaia, Fianna, Get of Fenris, Glass Walkers, Shadow Lords, Silent Striders, Silver Fangs, Uktena, or Wendigo. Due to their general inability to work well with humans, Red Talons are disallowed in this game. Also, since the Stargazers have left the Garou Nation, Stargazer PCs are subject to ST approval.

Merits and Flaws

The following Merits and Flaws are disallowed:

On Weapons (mundane and Fetish)

This game will involve adventures in urban settings, and police generally do not take kindly to people swinging around 5-foot swords in public. If your PC is caught with an illegal weapon, the police will confiscate it -- keep that in mind if you try to whip out your klaive to deal with those fomori on an excursion into the city.

Also, note that Fetish weapons will be rare, and that under no circumstances will any PC be allowed to begin play with a Grand Klaive.

Mood

I would like to keep the angst in this game to a minimum (one tragic incident in your character's background is believable; three or more is just melodramatic :-). I would much rather see functional characters than psychological basket cases. Keep this in mind when you're coming up with a character background.

A Note on Garou Names (a/ka "Deed Names")

A character's Garou Name should reflect his or her personality and/or past accomplishments. For Cliath, they usually reflect something from the character's Rite of Passage.

For players in need of inspiration, Player's Guide to the Garou, pages 65 - 76, is a nice section on naming conventions for the various tribes.

In Closing

I'm sure I'll be adding to this as we go along; if you have any questions, just ask. I'm looking forward to running this game, and I hope you'll have as much fun playing in it.
